This was actually a recent photo I took at the New Mandarin Garden, the Chinese restaurant where my brother and his wife had their baby's Christening reception. For those in the restaurant industry, here's a bit of advice: Provide the forks. Even if your customers, especially the ones paying for large dinner parties, choose to bring their own cake to the party, provide the forks. A bit of hospitality goes a long way, particularly if you want regular clientele.

They've spilled the beans on George:
Witnesses told a federal grand jury President George W. Bush knew about, and took no action to stop, the release of a covert CIA operative's name to a journalist in an attempt to discredit her husband, a critic of administration policy in Iraq.
Their damning testimony has prompted Bush to contact an outside lawyer for legal advice because evidence increasingly points to his involvement in the leak of covert CIA operative Valerie Plame's name to syndicated columnist Robert Novak. [more...]

I'm following Eliza's lead and I'll be off to Gotham City next week and I'm calling on all in the know to give me the 411 on everything and anything about the City that never sleeps. Food, architecture, museums (that old employee badge from LACMA will come in handy - hey things are tight nowadays ya know), tourist traps, hole-in-the-walls, shopping, bars. Anything! Anyone know by chance were I can catch a glimpse of Woody Allen?
I've had the pleasure of traveling to New York a couple of years ago but the Mrs. has never been so I'll be stuck doing "touristy" stuff. I don't mind really as it's been awhile and things often change. Betty is excited about the pizza as she is a cheese fanatic (what Mexican-American girl isn't - ha). Thanks in advance!
Bush Administration Frees Terror Suspect
This is mind-boggling. One would think that given the unprecedented amount of support behind this terror suspect's prosecution, the Bush administration would prosecute full-force.
Nabil al-Marabh, once imprisoned as the No. 27 man on the FBI's list of must-capture terror suspects, is free again. He's free despite telling a Jordanian informant he planned to die a martyr by driving a gasoline truck into a New York City tunnel, turning it sideways, opening its fuel valves and having an al-Qaida operative shoot a flare to ignite a massive explosion.
Not only was al-Marabh released despite credible evidence tieing him to terrorism, he was released in Syria, a country known to sponsor terrorism.
Free despite telling the FBI he had trained on rifles and rocket propelled grenades at militant camps in Afghanistan and after admitting he sent money to a former roommate convicted of trying to blow up a hotel in Jordan.
Free despite efforts by prosecutors in Detroit and Chicago to indict him on charges that could have kept him in prison for years. Those indictments were rejected by the Justice Department in the name of protecting intelligence.

So in order to keep those tax cuts permanent and to make the U.S. Embassy in Iraq a Bush dream-come-true among other things, the White House suggests they do the following:

Sufficed to say, she had a great time. I think this picture says it all. Thanks for the key chain & the "Big Apple" glass paperweight which will temporarily replace my EA (firebreathing?) pewter dragon. It won't be long 'til you know where (hint: it's greener over there).
We Remember
I know most Americans will be spending this holiday seeing a movie, resting from work, cleaning their rooms, etc, but I'm sure we all agree that we should all take a moment to reflect on and appreciate the sacrifices of so many.

Bad Week For Ashcroft (Another Update)
So Ashcroft obviously broke the rules.
Under the Homeland Security Act of 2002 and Bush administration rules, only the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) can publicly issue threat warnings, and they must be approved in a complex interagency process involving the White House. Administration officials sympathetic to Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge said he was not informed Ashcroft was going to characterize the threat in that way - an assertion that Justice officials deny.
Now who are you going to believe? Frankly, I don't see any reason why Tom Ridge's "people" would make this up.
Rep. Christopher Cox (R-Calif.), chairman of the House Select Committee on Homeland Security and a guardian of Ridge's turf within the administration, released a statement criticizing Ashcroft.
This would have been better coming from Ridge himself as Ashcroft depreciated his role and pretty much made him look insignificant.
"Dissemination by our government of sensitive terrorism warnings must be closely coordinated across our intelligence and law enforcement communities," Cox said. "In the Homeland Security Act, DHS was assigned the central coordinating role in this process. The absence of Secretary Ridge from yesterday's news conference held by the attorney general and the FBI director, and the conflicting public messages their separate public appearances delivered to the nation, suggests that the broad and close interagency consultation we expect, and which the law requires, did not take place in this case.
"The American public, state and local law enforcement, governors and mayors, and private sector officials with responsibility for critical infrastructure all deserve crystal clarity when it comes to terrorism threat advisories." more...
